Toyotafest 2017

People close to me know I'm not the car show type, I'll sometimes attend the local cars-n-coffee and anything that supports veterans but thats about it. This is mainly because I didn't build the 2zrVios to be a show car, its a race car. If I'm going to take the car and family somewhere for a whole day, to me it only seems worthwhile that I better be racing and enjoying the car how its meant to be enjoyed.

This year was different though, a few people on the forums and Facebook groups requested to see the 2zrVios at Toyotafest. I asked my friends, family, and sponsors for advice on this as this is unfamiliar territory for me. The consensus was unanimous, go for it. I signed up and let everyone know I was attending, then the search for a tow to Long Beach began. Right away my friend Juan agreed to tow us with his truck, so we rented a trailer from Uhaul for about $60.

It took about 2 hours to make the trip from San Diego to Long Beach, so we left at 5:30AM and that drive felt especially long at 55mph. After we arrived I drove the car off the trailer and over to the event with all of our gear inside, once in our spot I set up the canopy and went to get registered. In our registration goodie bag was a detail kit from Mcquires, that was a life saver since I don't own any of that stuff and the car has never really been detailed.

We got breakfast and coffee from the Crepes Bonaparte Food Truck, and man was that delicious!(we even returned there for lunch!). There were over 500 cars displayed so it took us a while to walk around and look at all of the cool builds. Every Toyota you can think of from 1970 up to present day was there; cars, trucks, vans, suv's, and a hand full of us race cars.

I made sure to make conversation with everyone that was interested in the 2zrVios, even some TORC staff members wanted to talk about the humble grassroots racing story behind this car. There was even a point where the Toyota media team came by to interview me on camera, asking why I chose this car. They said I may be included in a commercial, but because of my ties to Subaru I won't get my hopes up.

I also made a point to visit my friends at the Cusco booth to talk about how the Type-RS LSD has improved the car immensely. Kenji and Moto are vital parts of the Cusco team and I have tremendous respect for them.

Around 3PM TORC started giving out awards, and not surprisingly the 2zrVios didn't win anything. Honestly I'm not even sure what it would take to win anything from these events, nor do I really care. I enjoyed meeting and talking with the people that can respect the accomplishments of this car, we enjoyed the food, and now we can say we've attended Toyotafest!

We drove back home feeling accomplished, and looking forward to the next autocross event in June. Stay tuned as we are planning a track day at Big Willow in October! Check out the Toyotafest video down below.
